Tarian releases his most introspective and emotionally charged song yet - and announces first London gig!
UK artist Tarian returns in Spring 2025 with his most introspective and emotionally charged release yet - a powerful, existential poem-like track that captures the quiet yet relentless nature of internal struggle.
Titled “Where Do You Feel It?”, the new single from one of the most consistently exciting artists working in the UK explores the themes of identity, shame, and mental health. Falling loosely into the alternative hip hop genre, the driving beat and wistful melody of the song asks the listener to consider: Where do we feel these unseen burdens? Are they just in our heads?
Drawing from his coastal upbringing, Tarian imaginatively uses nautical imagery to capture the feeling of drifting aimlessly through life. Portraying himself as a shipping boat caught in a storm, close to shore yet still lost, the songwriter paints a haunting picture of loneliness and uncertainty.
This metaphor potently teases out the fragile tension between appearing composed on the surface and feeling overwhelmed within - and the track’s contrasting styles reflect this inner conflict. The softer, reflective chorus - “Where do you feel it? In your head?” - offers a pensive calm, while the rapped verses bring a rawer, more direct intensity. These shifting dynamics represent two sides of Tarian wrestling for control: the quiet introspection battling the harsher self-critique.
“I wanted to express the relentlessness of battling your own mind,” says Tarian. “The feeling of holding everything together on the outside, while inside you’re on a knife’s edge. The nautical metaphor felt right - being adrift, just shy of safety, and unsure if you’ll make it to shore.”
Themes of masculinity, pride, and emotional suppression loom large throughout the track, placing it directly in the current cultural moment. The stark imagery of a patient enduring ‘bedside manner’ highlights the discomfort of vulnerability, while Tarian’s introspective lyrics explore the isolating weight of shame.
Tarian has just announced his first proper UK show, something his growing base of fans have been waiting for since he first emerged through a high-profile collaboration with Frankie Stew and Harvey Gunn on the track “Half of Mine”. The artist will play the iconic Half Moon Putney in London on Monday 21 April.
